Emphasizing the historical roots and birth-year of the Priscilla Beach Theatre, this 1937 pickup truck can be seen in random locations around Plymouth with a signboard announcing the latest shows. (Yes, this is a real life-size truck - but the post-processing effect I applied makes it look more like a toy on a shelf).
Work continues apace to have the restoration completed by next summer when the boards will again echo the footsteps of talented actors and actresses. My earlier post from late May is at this link showing the venue before construction began.
Here is the view in May.
A new sill has been completed on the southwest side of the building.
The sill has been replaced on the northeast side also. (The haphazard plywood is temporary as work progresses).
For orientation, the main stage area is in the center section, the right section is the audience area, and the left section is the backstage area.
With the new sill installed, work progresses on reconstructing the wall. The new wall will not have window openings.
It's a bottom-up approach reconstructing the walls from the sill upward.
Some serious new beams await installation. I put my two-inch red pocket knife in the picture for scale.
This view is part of the stage and backstage area being readied for some joist and flooring repair.
Scaffolding is being assembled inside the audience area. This view is from center stage looking out toward the audience area.
Yep, it's coming along nicely. Next summer, put Priscilla Beach Theatre on your calendar when "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Chicago" are already scheduled to inaugurate the restored venue. Help keep live theatre alive in our community - or wherever you are reading this around the world!
