Out and About, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

The golden dome of the Massachusetts State House glistens brilliantly in the bright sunshine.

The view westward from the sledding slope on the Boston Common.

As always, the t-shirt/sweat shirt cart vendor is ready to sell to passers-by.

It's not a steep hill - just right for kids of all ages......

....and adults, too.

Hundreds of pigeons hang out for warmth on top of the sunny dark roof of the subway station and then.......

...swoop down when some human drops food for them. Seems a practiced ritual for both the birds and the humans.

Fresh Snow, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

The next day after the storm the main paths through the Boston Common are clear for walking.

As usual, many folks were out and about.

In the Public Garden.

Also, in the Public Garden.

The Commonwealth Avenue Mall.

Anti-vaxers vs. Vaxers, Boston Common, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

I didn't know prior to this visit to Boston about the protest and counter-protest, by vaxers and anti-vaxers, that I would encounter.

Each group had stuff:

This group - flags.

This group - musical instruments.

This group - bicycles.

This group - riot shields.

This group - billy clubs and zip-tie handcuffs.

This man's tactic seemed to be to taunt the police. I'm not sure what that had to do with vaxing or not.

Back in my day 50+ years ago, tear gas and beatings were common - not so today.

I guess a good time was had by all..........It was a beautiful fall day in Boston and I was glad to be outside and alive to enjoy it.

Out and About, Boston Common, Public Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Over Memorial Day weekend, the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund organization sponsors a flag garden on the Boston Common to recognize and pay tribute to each Massachusetts citizen who has died in wars. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument stands in the background above at left.

Beginning with the Revolutionary War, it adds up to more than 37,000 people.

That's a big number to imagine.

And all those flags cover a lot of territory. It's a powerful sight to see.

This march occurred at midday nearby the flags at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

Otherwise, in the park, life goes on as normal. Squirrels sit on the benches and eat a snack - just like the humans.

The carousel is open for the season and parents and kids line up for a ride.....

.....while a couple of very large family members await. They were tall enough to ride on their own but didn't.

Some of the Allium are still blooming but, its days are numbered.

Though welcome, the rains have finally stopped.

Boston Common, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

A beautiful spring day on the Common - the cherry trees are gaining more color (this was on 4/3)!

The grass is greener on each visit.

More and more folks are out and about.

And sitting on a park bench in the warming sun is always a winner. (This is at the Leventhal Park at Post Office Square).

Following are a few black and white treatments that I enjoy from the same day/visit.

Heading home after shopping.

Face down in a device.

The best for last - a long and purposeful stride - my favorite of the day.

Ah Boston, you seldom disappoint.

A Black and White View - Part 3 of 3, Boston Common, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

A couple strolls along one of the many paths on the Boston Common, the oldest city park in the United States (1634).

Like any great city parkland, folks are always out and about, regardless the weather.

Mid-October the same spot looked like this.

And with some further manipulation.

I expect working at the hot food cart is a better choice than the t-shirt/sweatshirt vendor cart.

"The redcoats are coming" was once a battle cry in this area.

Fall - Boston Common, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Many trees were ablaze with color on this visit to the Boston Common, the oldest city park in the U.S., created in 1634.

It's 50-acres in size, and well-used year around.

A stunning place in the fall - and any other time, too.

Fall - Boston Common, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Much of the Boston Common was still green on this recent visit but, there was one small pocket of oranges and reds......

....that proved popular for.......

.....many folks to stop to make portraits on their phones.

Others, just to enjoy wandering along with a cup'o coffee in hand.

It was a lovely fall day in the world-class city of Boston.

I have been surprised with the willingness of our citizenry to wear masks when outdoors in public spaces.
