Fall - Brookwood Farm, Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, Massachusetts, USA

Lucky timing - an overnight downpour left a well-positioned puddle on Maple Lane. This is one of my favorite fall images so far this year.

Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, Massachusetts, USA

An expansive view awaits those who climb to the top of Eliot Tower on Great Blue Hill in the Blue Hills Reservation. Ten miles or so in the distance to the north downtown Boston is visible.

This view is eastward towards the coast.

There are more than 125 miles of woodland trails but, this paved service road is also a popular way to the top. It is more ankle-stable for those of us in the older set who don't want to risk the rocky trails.

My guess is that these trees stand 60-80 feet tall.

I wanted a harsh black and white image - hints of days to come in the winter weather - a time when we will likely still be coronavirus captives.

Fall - Brookwood Farm, Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, Massachusetts, USA

The Blue Hills Reservation, a 6000-acre park about 10 miles south of Boston is an especially popular spot when the fall colors come out.

This area is Maple Lane.

Maple Lane, from the opposite end. I think I was a week or two early this year.  Still too much green.

Fall, Brookwood Farm, Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, Canton, Massachusetts, USA

The historic Brookwood Farm is a part of the Blue Hills Reservation south of Boston, Massachusetts. The entire Blue Hills Reservation complex is a beautiful 7000+ acre public parkland close to the busy city life of Boston.

There was still quite a bit of green left on the trees but, if I looked closely, the spectacular color was hiding in plain sight.

I sat a spell on this bench to feel the warm sun on my face on a cool day - one of those old man pleasures - like a scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day.

This whole series is pretty much right out of the camera without extra processing and enhancements.

I'll stop back in a week and see how the color has improved. I'm surprised this place wasn't crawling with photographers or other lovers of fall color.

I really enjoy the beauty of the New England fall season and hope you blog followers all over the world do also!

A Fall Walk, Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, Massachusetts, USA

The Blue Hills Reservation is a 7000 + acre public property about 10 miles south of Boston. Laced with hiking trails and hills it provides a green oasis close to the big city and is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). There are 22 hills within the 10 square miles of land and it is a fine place to wander on a fall day.

You can walk up the paved road or take a rocky trail through the woods to get to the top.

Or, you can bicycle up and down at least ten times like this enterprising local man does for exercise.

Still a lot of green in the trees on this visit.

But enough color for me to make a quick still life.

The stone tower at the top affords a commanding view of downtown Boston in the distance and the surrounding areas.  The stairs at left go to the top.

When you stand atop the tower and look out at the majesty on a crisp, fall day - the azure sky punctuated with cumulus clouds - the wind is like a symphony orchestra - one area of tree tops rustling in a gust of wind, another area starts in - all around the different sections chip in to complete the full orchestral arrangement.

These two international visitors chose a perfect day to visit.

It was another of those spectacular days to be alive and outdoors in the greater Boston area.

He's on the way down on trip number six. (And thanks for wearing red).

Makes me want to buy a bicycle - except for the uphill part...........
