South End, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Glimpses of old, new, and in-between are visible in the architecture in the South End neighborhood, one of more than twenty distinct neighborhoods in the City of Boston. The two tall buildings in the distance are part of the Prudential complex in the adjacent Back Bay neighborhood.

This jogger enjoys a quiet morning outing in the South End.  Each of Boston's twenty-plus neighborhoods has its own specific long standing cultural focus and/or ethnic heritage.

A section of  the Southwest Corridor Park passes through the South End along a former rail right of way. Features include tennis courts, small playgrounds, bike path, walking path, and even a designated "butterfly meadow" on the left in the above photo.  The Hancock building in the distance is the tallest structure in New England at 790 feet.

Quiet tree lined residential streets are interspersed among the busy urban amenities which include restaurants, markets, shops, parks, colleges and universities.

These iconic rooftops are along Columbus Avenue.  I was in the South End recently for the Jazz Festival (see previous blog posts) and did some wandering.........
