Downtown, Chatham, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA

Strolling in downtown Chatham - it wasn't really as cold as these folks are dressed - but fall weather has definitely arrived. Chatham real estate average is more than half a million dollars (according to Zillow.com) - there is even a single family home currently listed for sale at $9,995,000 (six bedrooms, four baths).

Downtown Chatham's Main Street.

Nice place to sit a spell and peruse the news. Odd place to put a mailbox, though (under the bench).

Fancy town, fancy clock.

300 years old seems old by United States criteria - not so much in the rest of the world. It's funny how we make such a big deal about our years. I don't ever recall seeing much hoopla in towns elsewhere whose known roots go back thousands of years.

It wouldn't be New England without some hot button swirling political issue - in this case, windmills to generate power located in the sound between Cape Cod and Nantucket Island - many folks are opposed to the idea.

A trusty rubber ducky in a toy shop window.

Perhaps true until the headache takes over..........
