We just completed two weeks on Hilton Head Island (HHI), but have only completed a couple days on Isle of Palms (IOP). Here are some initial thoughts comparing and contrasting the two locations.
IOP has a pier which frames the sunrise nicely - HHI does not.
IOP has lots of little shells on the beach - HHI does not.
Some IOP houses are painted bright multicolors - under HHI architectural guidelines, houses must be painted in earth tones to blend with the southern flora and trees.
IOP houses are closer together and most tall growth and trees are gone - HHI retained a more natural setting with houses blending into the environment.
IOP has a smiling Jabba the Hutt sand sculpture - HHI does not.
