It's been raining buckets lately but, when I got home and looked out the window, a tiny ray of sunshine was on the pond.....
....and sitting in that spot of sun was this Great Blue Heron. This pond is informally called Green Heron Pond after the pair of Green Herons that live here and are sighted and heard often. This Great Blue is unusual.
Normally, he would have spooked and flown by now with my movement visible through the glass but he was annoyed by the dragonflies buzzing around his head. Actually, he wasn't annoyed.....he was hungry.....
....and, in the blink of an eye, snatched a juicy dragonfly snack right out of the air. Yum. Then he flew away - the heron, not the dragonfly.
