Melun, Île-de-France, France

On the road to Melun, a city about  40km/24mi southeast of Paris, we stopped for some treeline/cloud images and I was taken by the cool name on this sign. And no, I can't pronounce it properly.

Treeline and clouds.

The city of Melun is like a small Paris in some respects.  It is on the Seine River, it has its own Notre Dame cathedral, and the cathedral is located on an island in the middle of the Seine.

Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame (Collégiale Notre-Dame de Melun) was founded in the early 11th century.

The town was sacked by the Normans in the 9th century so it's been around for quite a while. My hometown of Plymouth, Massachusetts in the United States will celebrate it's 400th anniversary in five years -  it's not even close to the length of recorded history in Europe........
