Basketball is the dominant sport in the United States among youth (both genders can play organized games), although it is Little League baseball that many people, including me, remember fondly from their youth. Little League, founded in 1939 by Carl Stotz, gets the kids outdoors and involved in an organized group activity. Soccer, (what the rest of the world calls football), continues to grow and is almost as popular as the baseball tradition.
