A Pond with No Name, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Small ponds dot the southeast Massachusetts landscape. They are little oases amidst the oak and pine forests. The forest critters find food and water there and nearby. Although it has no official name, we like to call it Green Heron Pond for the namesake pair who seem to call it home.

This deer, one of a group of three, wandered by on the way to the trail around the pond, nibbling any tender spring buds along the way.

This 1857 Plymouth County map depicted only the major ponds. The red arrow I added shows the general location of the pond shown in the first image above.  It is one of hundreds of small and large glacial kettle ponds that dot the countryside.  It is good to live in an area where fresh water is plentiful.
