Metropol Parasol, La Encarnación Plaza, Centro, Seville, Andalusia, Spain

Metropol Parasol is a mostly wooden structure located at La Encarnación square in the Centro area of Seville. Completed in April 2011, it is reported to be the largest wooden structure in the world. Its appearance generated a fair amount of public controversy in this traditional city but has become a people magnet for tourists and residents alike. It's locally known as the "mushrooms" or the "waffles."  But I am getting ahead of myself..........

We had walked over to the Parasol for golden hour, sunset, and blue hour to see what we could see. Admission to the walkways on top was three euros each - well worth the view and experience.

The walkways are encompassing and probably not too scary for those who prefer to avoid heights.

As shadows lengthen........

.... like-minded spirits made their way to the top platform.......

....for many selfies and other group photos.

A very festive mood prevailed on this beautiful day. I like the father/daughter matching shades.

These women were visiting from Texas.

As the sun sets........

...lights come on in the city and at the distant Cathedral of Seville, and in the mid-distance the Church of San Salvador.....

.....and in the foreground, the Church of the Annunciation.

Blue hour deepens.....

.... the temperature drops.....

....and the final few visitors join me on top in the cold breeze as darkness closes in.

And then, I am alone with my thoughts and the beauty of this special place. The past and present, together in harmony.
