"A Broadway Musical Review," Priscilla Beach Theatre, Priscilla Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT) Owners and Guardians Bob and Sandy Malone brought another cabaret style songfest to the Barn Stage for a one-night-only performance. The performers are members of the 2018 summer stock resident company at PBT and have come from all across this country and even one from "down-under" to share their creative performance talents with us.

Produced by: Bob and Sandy Malone
Production Manager: Joshua Patino
Hosted by: Jordan Stam
Music Director and Keyboard: Asher Denburg

It may be kind of a stretch but, the man in the suit at left above looks like one of the Beatles crossing Abbey Road. Alas, it is not a Beatle. It is PBT co-owner and guardian Bob Malone lending a hand with the parking lot duties before the show. PBT is a hands-on family enterprise and the Malones are always personally on hand helping to make the patron experience a smooth, personal, professional, and magical one. Their approach seems to work well. And I am not alone judging by the constant series of sold out shows year after year. People around here like this place, like the shows, like the owners, like the performers, like the spirit, and they like coming back again and again!

Listed above on the handbill are the tunes, the Broadway shows they came from, and the performers in this review. (Sorry about the creases in the paper - I folded it up and stuck it in my pocket to take home without thinking). The following images are in order of occurrence in the show.

I didn't make it to a full rehearsal like I usually do to capture a few special photographic moments - instead, these are taken from my audience seat with my silent point-and-shoot pocket camera perched on my leg for stability and to avoid annoying other patrons. (It is seat L-2 in case you are wondering).

I don't often capture this angle of view. It's a good reminder of the ambiance that an almost 150-year old barn with wide-hewn lumber can exude. I can hear and feel the hundreds and thousands of performers and patrons whose life paths have traveled through this venerable facility, one of the original barn summer stock theatres in the United States.

PBT... "was founded in 1937 by Dr. Franklin Trask and has been a rigorous summer stock training ground for generations of actors. Some of PBT alumni include Paul Newman, Pat Carroll, Sandy Dennis, Dan Blocker, Jean Seberg, Al Brooks, Rob Reiner, Kitty Winn, Peter Gallagher and Jennifer Coolidge." Source: PBT

By the way, the red  Chevrolet truck in the image above is a restored 1937 model in commemoration of the founding year.

These musical review shows provide another opportunity for these fine young performers to showcase their talents and additionally provide local residents with a joyous summer evening filled with music, creativity, and the infinite promise of youth. That's pretty special in my book.

In recent past years, PBT also offered  Broadway Musical Reviews and you can access my blogs about them as follows:
