The View from Above, White Horse Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Back in my younger days when I lived in California, I used to pilot little airplanes around within the state. Marriage, fatherhood, mortgage, and a full time job, however, left little time and/or money for pleasure flying in such aircraft.  So now, as a retiree with some time to spare, I very occasionally go flying with a former co-worker.  He is retired also and has continued both his own flying and flight instructing in little planes.

We did a recent flight over much of Plymouth County for me to try to capture the beautiful fall colors from above. I re-learned two lessons: first, don't hold the camera outside the aircraft window - my grip cannot overcome the buffeting at 100+ mph and the pictures will be blurred, and second, don't go when the wind is howling - the turbulence creates the same grip and blur issues.

Regardless, I have posted three of the least blurred from that flight. Above, a view eastward shows Bartlett Brook, Bartlett Pond, and White Horse Beach.

The opposite view - looking back toward White Horse Beach and Bartlett Pond.

In the foreground is Stage Point, upper right is Manomet Point, at center is Scokes Pond, upper left is Bartlett Pond, and in the center distance are White Horse and Priscilla Beaches.

As I've said many times on this blog, the Plymouth area is a mighty beautiful part of the planet. Hopefully, I will get in another flight this season before the fall color is gone completely.

  3. Pretty cool, my sister says "Wow - the color in this picture is amazing - the water looks like the Caribbean - and pretty cool that the brook really makes it easy to find the condo."

    1. Thanks, Christy. I have been known to sometimes be overly fond of excessive color saturation.
