Revere Beach, Revere, Massachusetts, USA

Revere Beach is located about four miles north of downtown Boston. Founded in 1895, it is the first public beach in the country.  The 8th annual National Sand Sculpting Festival is held this year from July 14-17.  Renowned sculptors from Massachusetts, Missouri, Washington, Rhode Island, Florida, Canada, Portugal, and Mexico compete for artistic recognition and cash.

Each sculptor is given 12 tons of sand on an 18x18 feet plot.  Only water and sand may be used in creating the sculpture.

Only 30 designated hours are allowed to each sculptor and only the individual sculptor may work on the piece.

Judging will be based on overall impact, originality, difficulty, quality, finish, and artistic impression.

Interesting philosophy on the t-shirt of this spectator - not sure how she plans to pay the bills, though - must be a fantasy of youth.
