A Hot Summer Day, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

New boat, old boat, and a young man enjoy the Boston Harbor on a hot summer day as viewed from Long Wharf.

Strolling through Norman Leventhal Park at Post Office Square.

What is it about cities that makes us both love and hate them.  The proximity of too many people, the open marketplaces, the cultural and culinary variety, the display of art and parkland spaces - there's something for everyone. This Friday for example, beginning at midnight, the 19-screen movie cineplex on the Boston Common will offer the final Harry Potter movie on ALL 19 screens at the same time!

Marshall Street near the New England Holocaust Memorial - the old brick buildings and cobblestone street are framed by the downtown high-rises - old and new side by side.
And strolling through the North End neighborhood on Hanover Street, folks all seem to head for Mike's Pastry.  The cannoli of your dreams is made fresh daily - and many other sweet treats, too.

A hip eatery also in the North End neighborhood is getting ready for the evening's diners to start arriving.  I think she is the hostess but it's hard to tell with those heels........

As the two ladies chatted and said their goodbyes in Italian, I had the feeling they've known each other for a lifetime in their North End community.

And as the day draws to a close, diners come out all over the city for that al fresco dining experience that is the exception in Boston - but thoroughly enjoyed when the weather permits it.  There's something about living in a climate of four distinct and divergent seasons that focuses the mind on enjoying what you have when you have it.
