The US Coast Guard vessel, "Eagle," enters the Boston Harbor to begin the "Parade of Sails." More than 50 sailing ships participated in the extraordinary event. Not since 2000 have so many tall ships come to Boston Harbor. The weather could have been better with fog and low clouds causing a delay in the start but, eventually everything worked out okay.
Some ships were part of the "Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta" that raced/will race from Europe to Bermuda, Boston, and Canada before returning to Europe in the fall.
I was positioned in South Boston near the North Jetty to observe the event. The vessels ranged in size from about 40 feet to the gargantuan 379 feet of the Peruvian vessel, "Unión."
Part 1 of this three part series is at this link.
Check back for Part 3 which covers my visit to the Seaport District Fish Pier for a dockside view.
