Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Mass Audubon, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Another wander through the Sanctuary to get some exercise and see the end of summer and beginning of fall.

The view from the observation platform.

One of the trails through the 481-acre property.

The meandering Beaver Dam Brook slowly making its way to the Cape Cod Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

Grasses waving in the breeze.

Still lots of bees - busy.

Each time I walk past this rock, it seems to look like a different animal depending on the light and angle of view.

Tidmarsh began its current life through the generous land donation of the Schulman family (see this blog post  when Mass Audubon opened the sanctuary) about two years ago.

Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Plymouth Harbor at very low tide looks a bit sad. There is probably a 10-foot tidal variation on this day so it will look a lot different in a few hours. It's not the Bay of Fundy but, tides around here make a big difference.

New art is appearing around town this summer mostly replacing the lobster art that has been around a few years. Of course, the theme is the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims landing nearby. I think the Town and Chamber of Commerce is expecting a major tourist extravaganza next summer and has been upgrading infrastructure to support it.

Elsewhere along the waterfront.

Liberty Lobster is still standing.

And of course, there is always the natural art everywhere.

Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT) Owners and Guardians, Bob and Sandy Malone, will open their production of "Young Frankenstein," for a eight performance run on the Barn Stage beginning October 4th. I recently captured a few images of the cast for potential promotional use.

Late Summer - Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary - Mass Audubon, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Tidmarsh is a wonderful place to wander and get some exercise out in a restored natural environment. The sounds of birds, bees, bugs, and wind playing gently all around me.

Especially pleasant as the color deepens with the shorter days of late summer.

Some are ahead of others.

Occasionally, an extra-terrestrial might happen by - like this Vulcan Legoman who wouldn't permit his picture being made but, he did permit me to make this shadow image.

Panoramas, White Horse Beach, Massachusetts, and, Providence, Rhode Island, USA

I have always been partial to panoramas - and today's cameras usually have the feature built-in instead of having to buy an expensive lens. Above, White Horse and Priscilla Beaches at low tide with my trusty Sony point-and-shoot.

And by twisting the camera on its axis as I arc it through the panoramic range, I can get this fish-eye effect. Granted, the quality is not as good as an expensive wide-angle lens but, it suits me okay. Above, the State Capitol building in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Slow March, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

"Oooo, oooo, look at me," says the goldenrod as it starts to spread over the fields of southern New England. It is heralding the slow march of summer's peak to the colorful fall ahead.

It starts every so gently, the greens of summer slowly supplanted by the grays and subtle pinks....

....and then small pockets of color begin to appear. Soon, the full explosion of fall will grace us once again - Fall in New England. Get the sweaters from the closet.

A couple days later, more color.....

And a few more days....

And a few more.

All these images are from the nearby Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary on Beaver Dam Road in Manomet, a 481-acre preserve which is part of the 38,000 acres of Massachusetts Audubon protected natural space throughout the state.
