Manomet Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

In words attributed to Winnie the Pooh, "sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes, I just sits." This east-facing view looks across Cape Cod Bay.  Twenty miles distant is the upper arm of Cape Cod. Water temp at a mid-bay buoy is still only 41 degrees F.

Bluff-top houses are majestic and dramatic places but, not always without some potential hazard. In this case, the sandy slope has given way, eroding right up to the porch steps. Likely an expensive proposition to remediate.

A load of boulders will be placed to shore up the base of the bluff and hopefully stabilize it against future collapse.

This house seems to be far enough back from the edge and the stabilizing plant growth may ward off a similar problem from occurring.

Out and About, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

I love this foreboding view as a summer storm approaches White Horse Beach. The water looks silver from the reflections of the storm clouds above. Most folks have already gone home. Soon, the rain will come down hard.

It's been hot - hot enough to sprawl on the cool stone of an empty bird bath and just be still and chill.

The hot weather has brought out the humans to the local beaches.

These folks are actually in the water - the bay temperature is up to the mid-60's this time of year.

A low tide view towards Stage Point. Directly across the water, 20 miles distant (about 75 highway miles), is the tip of the Cape Cod peninsula at Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The fawn is noticeably bigger and receiving some grooming by mom.

This is as good as a pencil mark on a doorframe for height measurement.

The fawn is not too big to depend on mom for some nourishment.

Beaches - Manomet and White Horse, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The advantage of a weather-filled spring is that on one rare day you get blue skies and warmish breezes that makes the contrast all the more spectacular. Above at Manomet Beach.

Same view in portrait format.

On the other hand, a stormy day creates a much more dramatic scene as this series in both color and black and white illustrates.  Above at White Horse Beach.

Same view in black and white.

Remind me again why I need to travel somewhere else to see such extraordinary beauty? That's right - I don't have to.

A Beautiful Spot on Planet Earth, White Horse Beach, Priscilla Beach, Manomet Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

White Horse Beach and Priscilla Beach, low tide on a mid-winter day.

I have set foot on many beaches in my lifetime. (I'm not sure why I feel such a pull to them since I don't swim well and my pasty white skin burns easily, nevertheless......). In North America - on the United States east coast from Maine down to Florida and on the west coast from Alaska down to California and the Hawaiian islands. In Central America - on Mexico's east and west coasts, and in Costa Rica. In the Caribbean - on the Virgin Islands and Bahamas. In South America - in Ecuador. In the Pacific Islands - on Tahiti and Moorea and New Zealand. In Europe - on England, Wales, Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy.

Each has its own special beauty and majesty but, to me, none is significantly more beautiful and wonderful than right here at home in Manomet - White Horse, Priscilla, and Manomet Beaches.

I am lucky to call it home.

Manomet Beach.

And as if spectacular beaches weren't enough, just 1500 feet from the shoreline is the iconic Priscilla Beach Theatre. It just can't get much more perfect than this.

Life willing, I think I'll stay a while longer...................
