Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

It was a perfect day in Plymouth - temperature in the low 70's, a light breeze, sun shining through a cumulus dotted sky - what some call a "chamber of commerce" day. Most boats are back in the water but, this one still has some work being finished.

A view of the Safe Harbor Marina downtown, the twin masts of the Mayflower replica are visible at left in the distance.

And speaking of the Mayflower.

At the town main wharf the charters are showing signs of life again as the pandemic restrictions are being eased.

Tourists and locals alike are back to enjoy al fresco dining both downtown and at the harbor.

The dingy dock is loaded with boats.

And folks from up and down the east coast make an appearance - for repairs, visiting, or just passing through. A nice place, Plymouth.

A Cloudy Spring Day, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

It is quiet on Leyden Street in downtown Plymouth. This is reputed to be the first street in Pilgrim America implemented in 1620 and continuously inhabited since then.

Governor William Bradford stands watch at the base of Leyden Street. Born in England in 1590, he served as governor of the Plymouth colony for about 30 years beginning in 1621.

It's still quiet on the town wharf - the appearance of the Captain John boat bodes well for the coming post-Covid tourist season.

These charter operators are hoping to make a decent living this year. They sure didn't have much last year.

The tourists are back visiting the refurbished Mayflower replica which lives in Plymouth harbor.

Plymouth is a popular destination for many biker folks and with the improving weather, more are returning to visit.

The local deer having survived another winter, are enjoying the returning greenery. A nice place to call home for people or critters - Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Low Tide, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Red and green - seasonal colors - tied up at the Plymouth Wharf downtown.

A very low tide. It is not uncommon for 10 feet of difference between low and high tide in Plymouth. (Canada's Bay of Fundy has a 40-50 feet variation).

And a very low sun at the nearby Town Hall.

Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

One shaft of sunlight on an otherwise cloudy day illuminates the Mayflower II at dock. It's been 400 years since the pilgrims landed in Plymouth though all the planned hoopla was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Tall Ships, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

It seemed like a normal day on the Plymouth wharf - fishermen tending to their traps, boats, and equipment but..........

....it turned out that right beside them was an unusual sight.

It was the three-masted tall ship, Peacemaker.

It is an unusual sight on the town wharf.

Meanwhile, our resident two-masted tall ship, Mayflower II, was 1500 feet across the harbor docked at the regular spot on the state pier. I enjoy living in a place where stuff like this happens.

Mayflower II, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The Mayflower II is back on the dock in the downtown harbor area of Plymouth. This year commemorates the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims landing here.

Newly restored and refurbished sails and rigging after the recent multi-year effort.

Sun and Sand at Long Beach, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The tide is out on this final summer visit to Plymouth's Long Beach.

The flats on the outside of the peninsula are wide. (Bug light at center on the horizon).

The light is special on this untouched dune near the tip of the peninsula.

The patterns in the sand are fascinating.

As the saying goes, "take only memories, leave only footprints."

Another beautiful summer day nears the end as a jet ski zooms by at breakneck speed heading back to port for the evening.

On the Water, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

With their instructor close in trail, these young sailors take advantage of this breezy, cloudy day on the water to practice their sailing skills.

The narrow spit of land in the distance is Plymouth's Long Beach peninsula.

A dramatic stormy sky at the nearby Safe Harbor Marina.

Also nearby, a mimosa blossom. Like it or not, summer is half past - the days are getting shorter and the later summer flowers are blooming.

Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Seems early in the season for sunflowers but, I'll take 'em when I get 'em. This group was in the yard of a bed and breakfast establishment near the waterfront and harbor area of Plymouth.

And just around the corner and south of the Plymouth Rock I walked to the Safe Harbor Marina (formerly Brewer's). They offer 100+ floating docks and all the other amenities of a first-class marina.

Seeing all these beautiful boats on a perfect summer day makes me dream of having one. Except I don't know much about boats other than riding in one. I've heard said they are "a hole in the water into which you pour money."

If one motor is enough, I imagine two must be even better. In the immortal words of Tim the Toolman Taylor, "More Power!" (From a popular sitcom in the 1990's - "Home Improvement.")

Sibling rivalry?

They sure look inviting on this warm summer's day - to go bounding through the water at high speed with the wind in my face and the sun on my back.

And just a bit further south is the Plymouth Yacht Club property.  Ah, Plymouth, "America's Hometown," - it truly has it all, offered up with seasonal variety.

Boats, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Another perfect summer day at Plymouth Harbor.

Plenty of water in the harbor at this point in the tidal cycle.

Tourists are out enjoying the warm air and beautiful setting.

Cumulus clouds are rolling through on the summer breeze. This is the existing harbormaster building on the town wharf. A new one is about to open next to the nearby boat ramp......

....where boaters and boaters and boaters line up today waiting to access the launch at this prime downtown boat ramp and trailer parking location.

They didn't seem to mind the wait to get out on the water and enjoy the beautiful day.
