End of a Decade, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

My first post to this blog site began a decade ago. This marks 2,583 posts since that beginning.

This scene is downtown Plymouth on a recent winter's night. I had to wait a while for these few pedestrians to wander by in the cold.

Best wishes to my many loyal readers for the decade past and the decade beginning.

"Divas With A Twist," Spire Center for Performing Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The "Divas With A Twist," returned to Plymouth's Spire Center for the Performing Arts for a rousing evening of both Christmas music and their regular rock repertoire.

The sold out crowd was not disappointed.

They have performed in Plymouth many times over the recent years, both at the Spire and on the waterfront at the Project Arts series.

The attentive crowd always goes home happy.  In real life they are moms, and nurses, and bus drivers, and performers but share a common passion for powerful music. They are always a pleasure to hear and see.

Live Theatre Photography, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

I have published thousands of posts over the past decade seen by readers all over the world, many about live theatre events at my local Priscilla Beach Theatre. Those of you who have followed this website over the years know that I have quite a passion for both live theatre and live theatre photography. To celebrate and recognize that fondness, I have created a new website that locates many of the posts about my theatrical experiences in one concise location.

I hope you will visit this new site, enjoy it, sign up for email receipt, and add it to your favorites. Click on the following link to visit: Live Theatre Photography

I haven't posted anything new recently to it and I don't expect to until theatre season ramps up here in May. Of course, if I get a call from Boston, or New York, or London, or Paris, or Milan, or elsewhere needing my services and keen eye and experience, I'll be off on that adventure. If you know anyone looking, send them my link : Live Theatre Photography

Sights of Winter, Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

A leaf locked in ice. After today, the days start getting longer - spring is on the way - but first, the beauty of winter is upon us.

Squirrel food locked in ice.

A reflected birch.

The sun angle is very low on the solstice day, even at midday.

A Recent Snowfall, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

It's difficult to surpass the natural beauty of a fresh, gentle snowfall in progress.

It's too cold in an unheated sunroom to hang out much but, it sure looks pretty.

And when the snowfall stops and the light begins to pierce through the trees, brilliant white highlights appear here and there.

It was only a couple inches total but, I'll take it! All the beauty but no shoveling required - an ideal storm.

Late Fall, White Horse Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

A view north along White Horse Beach on a cold, wind-swept sunny day.

And looking to the south towards Manomet Point.

"Aztec Two-Step '2.0' and Friends," Spire Center for Performing Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The Spire Center for Performing Arts in downtown Plymouth brought Aztec Two-Step to their stage recently. Beginning with a Boston folk club in 1971, Aztec Two-Step (and now 2.0) has been entertaining audiences for nearly five decades.

Some of the players have changed but, they still make great music together.

"And the Seasons........," Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

".....they go round and round..." (Joni Mitchell)

Same view late spring.

We didn't get much snow in southeastern Massachusetts - only an inch or so - enough to turn this evergreen pine to white - compared to the 20+ inches in most of the state.

"Spiro Gyra," Spire Center for Performing Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The not-for-profit Spire Center for Performing Arts in downtown Plymouth.

Before a Storm, Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Before the storm arrives, the wall of rain is less than an hour away. Too bad it's not colder or we'd have a great snowstorm of stunning beauty. What a sky!

Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The statue which honors Chief Massasoit of the Wampanoag tribe, stands in quiet silhouette atop Cole's hill in Plymouth overlooking the harbor.

A few boats remain at dock but, within days they will all be gone, the electric hook-ups removed, and the silence and stillness of the coming winter will be complete.

"Another Tequila Sunrise," Spire Center for Performing Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The Spire Center for Performing Arts in Plymouth recently welcomed the Eagles tributes band, "Another Tequila Sunrise," to their stage for a rousing and successful performance. This band has been touring for the past 15 years or so and playing to appreciative crowds.

So, maybe they are a little long in the tooth - so am I - so is the audience - get over it.

That's the nature of a tribute band.

"Oh, Beautiful for Spacious Skies...," Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Oh, beautiful for spacious skies (White Horse Beach)......

.....for amber waves of grain (Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary).....

Nothing like a sunny, breezy, cool, late fall day to highlight the beauty and wonder of life here on this part of the planet.

Tidmarsh Wildlife Santuary, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Gray, gray, and more gray.

After vigorous wind and rainstorms, few leaves remain. Winter draws nearer. The good news is that the days start getting longer in just a few weeks.

Blue Hour and Beyond, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

A wander through part of Boston in late afternoon/ early evening light, aka "the blue hour."

My purpose in being downtown on a weekday evening was to see a theatrical performance. Not at the Paramount but, it's exterior is more photogenic than the Opera House next door where I was.

The Opera House is just stunning inside. Since its opening in 1928, it has served as a vaudeville house, a movie house, an opera house, a ballet house, and host to touring Broadway productions.

I was there to see, "Come From Away," a story about how the Gander, Newfoundland community (population 10,000) rose to the challenge to host more than 7,000 uninvited, unexpected, tired, hungry, scared guests on 9/11/01 when the United States closed its airspace following the terrorist attacks and many flights already enroute had to divert to other destinations. This small community's response was a tribute to the best in humanity.

Seeing this show filled in a wonderful and humanizing narrative in my own life experience from that day/week.
