Out and About, Boston, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

I had to go into Boston recently for a meeting. It reminded me of my commuting days of two hours each way due to the rainstorm. Nevertheless after arrival, I wandered just a bit and stopped at Poe Square where this stunning statue of Edgar Allen Poe and his Raven grace the walkway for all to enjoy. He was born near here in 1809.

Raindrops streaming down his head. Artist Stefanie Rocknak designed the life-sized statue of the renowned writer.

I ducked into the lobby of the Colonial Theatre for a few minutes to dodge a particularly heavy rain squall.

But the next day, the rain is gone, the sun returns and spring resumes brightly.

From atop the bluff in Manomet, the distant landmass is Stage Point.

A lone fisherman stands in the surf line.

When I was a kid I think my 64-crayon box had all these colors in it.

Boats in the Sky, Plymouth Marine, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The sky had a magical-epic-creation-of-the world-cataclysmic sort of look to it but I needed a foreground element. These boats in the "yard" at Plymouth Marine (formerly Brewer's) in downtown Plymouth were perfect for the task.

Beauty is all around us - but sometimes, we must slow down and pause to notice it.

Out and About, Downtown, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Though it has been a rainy spring (just yesterday more than 1 inch fell in Plymouth County in windy downpours), there have been days of stunning beauty and perfect weather. Above, the Plymouth Marine docks (formerly known as Brewer's Marina).

The Plymouth Rock portico. By the way, who designed the standard pedestrian on signs? Why no hands, feet, nor neck? Just wondering.

Town wharf and Harbormaster Office. Passage to Cape Cod Bay in the far distance at right.

Nice lines, colors, and reflections.

Out and About, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Most anytime I go downtown in Plymouth, I try to swing by the Spire Center for Performing Arts to see if it is looking particularly photogenic that day. This time, it was - trees leafing out, a dramatic cloud-studded sky, and a VW bug passing by at just the right moment. My first car was a used 1966 red VW bug. If I remember correctly, I paid $400 for it (which I could barely afford). I wish I still owned it.

The Spire website says, "tremendous acoustics, sightlines, and an architecturally beautiful interior are The Spire’s trademark. The 225-seat performance hall features superior acoustics, custom state of the art lighting and sound systems and original period architectural details offering patrons an exceptional performing arts experience."

That is certainly true from my experience but, the exterior needs a bit of tender loving care now. They have embarked on a fund-raising campaign to do just that. If you want to help, go to their website and click on the Donate tab. The Spire is a non-profit organization.

Flowers are busting out everywhere in their annual show of beauty.

The famous Plymouth Rock lives under this classic portico on the waterfront in downtown Plymouth.

More flowers......

And a few miles south of downtown Plymouth at Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT), the performing arts jewel of southeastern Massachusetts, they just completed an eight performance run of, "Heathers - the Musical," and are in rehearsal for a fourteen performance run of, "Hairspray." Here's a link to my recent posts about "Heathers" if you missed it. Here's a link to PBT for more info or tickets.

And nearby PBT, an incoming tide at White Horse and Priscilla Beaches.

Life is pretty spectacular this time of year in the greater Plymouth area!

Out and About, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Blue sky in downtown Boston. A great spring day to wander about.  I like how the reflected clouds make the building appear to be somewhat transparent.

The Park Street Church and its 217-foot steeple reaches skyward adjacent to the Boston Common.

Shorts and short-sleeves on the Boston Common, the oldest city park in the United States (1634).

The ever popular cookie food truck ready to serve freshly made and baked treats.

Warm and sunny on the pedestrian-only mall at Downtown Crossing.

It is always a great time to be in downtown Boston but, especially so in the warmer months of the year.

"Heathers - The Musical," Final Tech/Dress Rehearsals, Part 4 of 4, Priscilla Beach Theatre, Priscilla Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT) Owners, Guardians and Producers, Bob and Sandy Malone, recently opened their production of "Heathers, the Musical" for an eight performance run on the Barn Stage.

The Barn Stage, a 240-seat venue, is in its 82nd season and is cited as the oldest summer stock barn theatre still operating in America. The original barn was built in 1875. The current owners, Bob and Sandy Malone,  completed a modernization and renovation effort in 2014-15 and also  installed new seats and new state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems at that time. Learn about that effort at this link to my blog posts about that project.

This is Part 4 of a four-part blog post series covering the final two tech/dress rehearsals.

Part 1 is at this link.
Part 2 is at this link.
Part 3 is at this link.

The following images begin where Part 3 left off at the final tech/dress rehearsal and continue in order of occurrence in the production. These images were captured live during a dress rehearsal. Many images are similar since an individual performer may look better in one image than another and some performers will use these images to share with family, friends, and/or, to build their resumes.

(Click on an image for a higher resolution version if your device supports that action).

Note: Many of these images, when viewed on a small screen cellphone, may present over-saturated theatrical colors. More normal views can be achieved when viewed on a larger laptop or desktop screen.

Cast and crew after the final tech/dress rehearsal - they are ready for an audience! (Sorry to end with such a washed-out image but, I just couldn't get the color right without grossly distorting the skin tones - next time.....).

This concludes my blog posts covering the PBT production of "Heathers - the Musical." Next up on the Barn Stage, is "Hairspray." Contact PBT online or by phone at 508-224-4888 for tickets or more info.

We are so fortunate to have such an extraordinary performing arts venue right here in our local community. Your support and attendance is important to keep this resource thriving.
