Priscilla Beach Theatre Greatest Hits of 2018 - "Dames at Sea," Priscilla Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Over the past few winter months, I have published this Greatest Hits series to present a very few of my favorite images from each of the 2018 performance season's six major productions on the iconic Priscilla Beach Theatre Barn Stage. This is the final show of that season but, no worries, the 2019 performance season begins in less than three weeks on Friday, May 3rd!  And from what I hear, the entire run is almost sold out! Get your tickets while you still can online at this link or by phone at 508-224-4888!

Bob and Sandy Malone, owners, guardians, and producers of Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT) brought this production of "Dames at Sea," to their Barn Stage in October 2018. The production was directed by Danny Bolton.

At each final dress rehearsal at Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT), I capture hundreds of images. From those, I will pick a cross-section that portrays many/most of the scenes and the performers. Those I publish in blogs. Many of the performers will then use those images to help build their portfolios. A very few of the images, however, stick in my mind and heart - they capture a special moment of beauty and/or emotion in that show.

Those special moments I include here in this post.

If you want to see all the images from this production again, follow this link to my earlier blog posts.

Three Jetties Outside Manomet, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Please excuse me for taking painful poetic license but, I recently watched the award winning movie, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," and it was on my mind during this walk.

These three jetties outside Manomet are along a stretch of Manomet Beach; the distant point of land extending into Cape Cod Bay is Stage Point.

As the spring days warm and lengthen, the water temperature is now up to 41 degrees F. Woo hoo!  (According to an observation buoy in the center of the bay: Station 44090).

And yes, soon there will be people in the water - not me - but the "real" New Englanders will be.

"The New Motif," Spire Center for Performing Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Once again, the Spire Center for Performing Arts, provided an outstanding musical experience with "The New Motif," whose website says they are "an eclectic jam/funk band, infusing deep psychedelic grooves with improvisational techniques. The ambitiously crafted keyboard mastery, expressive saxophone and immaculate guitar shredding meld into a dynamic fusion. Their intricate funky bass and drums render addictive grooves binding band and crowd." In simple terms, they were HOT!

They provided almost three hours of uninterrupted music for the adoring fans who spent most of the evening on their feet, crowding the stage, rocking out.

On their feet and having fun.

The lead guitar/vocalist above does have wild hair but, not that wild. The round object center foreground is a high-powered fan aimed at him throughout the show.

It takes a lot of effort to rock out so intensely for so long!

I have been to many shows here at the Spire but, few have I observed the powerful connection/interaction between the audience and the performers as was evident on this evening. What an experience!

The Spire did it again demonstrating their talent for selecting exceptional acts.

A Beautiful Spring, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

As you may note from the sign, we are now at the 399th year anniversary of the Pilgrims landing in Plymouth. The whole town is abuzz in anticipation of the 400th anniversary next year. Roads, parks, sidewalks, buildings - everything has been on a years-long improvement schedule for "Plymouth 2020."  A fever pitch is building - even the replica Mayflower has been out of town being refurbished and readied for the celebration. I know that 400 years is not such a big deal around the world where cultures have been in place for thousands but, it's a big deal here.

A few of the stately homes in downtown Plymouth.

A Captain John boat has returned to its normal spot on the town wharf.

Boats all around the area, still wearing their winter coats, are moving closer to the water in anticipation of soon floating again.

And the gulls are squabbling over something - food, territory, makin' babies, whatever.

The higher sun angle makes for nice shadows below the entrance to Brewster Gardens.

A small section of a mural under a bridge overpass is alongside the trail through Brewster Gardens on the way to the Jenny Pond parking lot.

And just a few miles to the south, the ever-spectacular White Horse Beach basks in a day of spring cold, wind, and sunshine. It is good to be alive in and around "America's Hometown" - Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Spring at the Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

All the winter ice is gone, the days are getting longer, the sun higher in the sky, and soon the Captain John boats will be back at the wharf in downtown Plymouth ready to haul visitors out on whale watch and other trips.

The floating docks will soon welcome their residents back from their winter homes on land.

And just up the street from the harbor, the Spire Center for Performing Arts, stands tall and ready for the next performance. They go all year - no down time.  Check out their events calendar at this link. Come out and support the performing arts in our community.

It is a pretty nice place - "America's Hometown," Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Building the Set, Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT), Priscilla Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Winter is rapidly giving way to spring on the PBT campus. It's time for building the set for the first show, "Life Could Be A Dream," of the 2019 performance season!

After the concept idea and designing, it starts with a line of tape on the floor - this is where the set walls will stand.

Each wall section is constructed from 2x4 lumber - just like a regular house.

The small windows at the top of the wall are on purpose......

The setting is a basement apartment and the high windows are looking out onto street level at the feet and legs of passers-by.

Looking downstage, the audience area in the background is still dark and cold but, soon, the raucous laughter and smiles of a full house of happy patrons will fill the space - the season opener of "Life Could Be A Dream," is on May 3rd - barely a month away!

Here's the full season:
