Deadwood, Plymouth Harbor, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

A few years ago this was deadwood floating out in the ocean. As a hazard to navigation, the harbormaster towed it to the downtown Plymouth boat ramp to get it out of the way. Now it lives here, on land, a fascinating visual treat for all and a great climbing structure for youngsters.

Nature's jungle gym.

It has weathered quite beautifully as these close-ups of part of the root ball reveal.

Experts say it is the remains of a 100+year old white pine. Nice.
