Late Afternoon, Bartlett Pond, White Horse Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

It has been an odd spring - lots of rain showers, passing thunderstorms, sun shining while it's raining - and through it all the swan family wanders the pond eating the bottom growth.

An intense brief thunderstorm had just passed by leaving behind a freshly washed local world. Yes, there is a faint remnant of a rainbow in the distance.

Even the new tinman guarding the garden is already rusting from all the rain.

The rhododendrons are in bloom, including the rare rubber ducky flower.

Crisp, clear afternoon light and a reflected cloud in the still pond water.

The swan family paddles over hoping for a handout.

There were four cygnets a few days ago, now down to three.

I always wonder how the cygnets get enough food since their necks aren't long enough to reach the bottom growth.

I caught the drop of water off his nose at just the moment the outward ripple occurred.

Strange creatures, swans, very passive aggressive. They will swim right up to humans but then hiss and feign attack all the while hoping for a handout. Go figure. In any case, they add beauty to Bartlett Pond on a fine spring day.
