Lunch, Piazza dell' Anfiteatro, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy

Our lunch destination has often been the south side of the oval Piazza dell' Anfiteatro to find a table and bask in the warm winter Tuscan sun. It is surprisingly un-crowded, regardless, the service is neither hurried nor slowed. It is when it is.  Dating to pre-Roman times, there has been a piazza here for more than two thousand years.

A perfectly grilled plate of vegetables and white beans in olive oil is as perfect a vegan lunch as can be found anywhere in the world.

In summer, the respite from the intense sun will be found on the other side of the piazza, today mostly deserted and in cold shadow. In Tuscany, it is always about the sun.
