Music on the Waterfront, Project Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

This week's free concert on the waterfront, produced by Mike Landers and Project Arts, was the ever-popular rhythm and blues cover band, "Steve Smith and the Nakeds."

It was a perfect summer evening in "America's Hometown," as seen in this panorama of the adjacent harbor including the "Mayflower II" at her dock.

Some folks chose to party onboard their boats as the music filled the air.

Through the magic of wireless microphones, the band at times would roam throughout the audience without missing a beat. A nice touch that really connects the musicians to the audience.

Dancers young and old filled the grassy area in front of the stage as the musicians weaved through playing away.

Steve Smith, the band's lead vocalist and stylish rock-and-roller, sang directly to many of the women in the audience, mostly to their delight.

There was no shortage of dancers, except for the late teen/early twenties demographic who were far too cool to be seen at a concert with people their parents and grandparents age - how totally embarrassing.

Of course, the littlest ones were delighted to dance with grandpa.

This band has been making music for 43 years.......

.....and I don't recall often seeing a group who had so much fun together, such mastery of the material, and an obvious love of performing.

Good thing that trombonist's slide wasn't any longer because I was out of room in the picture. By the way, there were ten members of the band but I never really got a good image with them all in it at the same time.

This youngster was happy to get some cotton candy from one of the food trucks at the event.

As the daylight faded, the full moon rose to the south over Manomet hills in the distance.

As darkness closed in, the crowd kept rockin' as the band continued pounding out those hits from the last 50 years.

When I left and was driving home facing into the rising moon, I swung by Priscilla Beach Theatre to see if I could find a good angle of the rising moon but, alas, the clouds had thickened and it wasn't so great a viewing angle anyway. At least I could hear a few minutes of rousing voices as the production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" was underway inside on the Barn Stage at that time.

Summertime in Plymouth is pretty special!
