I haven't seen any other windmills in Provence but, judging by the strength and duration of the "mistral" wind that blows here from time to time, I suspect a windmill was historically a good idea.
Goult is a hilltop village pretty much right in the middle of everything in this area of Provence. The view to the north today features snow capped Mont Ventoux in the distance.
Windmill and stone houses. Terracotta tiles are the only roofing material I have seen anywhere in Provence. Whether by rule or tradition, it sure looks better than asphalt shingles.
In downtown Goult, another great place for another long lunch in the warm sunshine.
Seems early for daffodils but, this is Provence not Massachusetts.
Like many/most of the towns here, arches are the common way to support an opening. I like that - makes for prettier images.
I am fascinated how they simply built buildings on top of whatever rock formations happened to be there. This street is near the 12th-century castle, the Chateau de Goult. (The strange white vertical stripes at center are from sunlight reflecting off an opposing window).

Is it true you cannot have a tile roof if winter temperatures go below freezing?
