Lunch, Piazza dell' Anfiteatro, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy

There is still a winter chill in the air at midday so many diners gravitate toward the sunny side of Piazza dell' Anfiteatro for a table in the warm light. Although the current version of the Piazza was built in 1830, it is positioned on and above the bones of the 2000+ year old Roman arena. Most of those remains were gutted for other later structures in town.

We were no different choosing a warm sunny table for ourselves.

Second only to feet, the bicycle is the favorite form of transportation in this town. Here, a green, white, and red one carry the colors of the Flag of Italy, and the background is the equally popular Tuscan gold on the wall.
