Our Lucca visit is foot-based. No encumbrance of an automobile. We walk to the forno (bakery) to buy fresh-baked bread, and we walk to the green-grocer to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. We walk. We walk. We walk. Although there are modern supermarkets outside the city walls, I prefer buying locally within the walls from families who have had a business for generations, serving locals and tourists alike with real, plant-based food, kindness, and a helpful smiling face even as I struggle to speak their beautiful language. (Near Piazza San Michelle).

The bicycle is the preferred transport vehicle in this pedestrian-friendly town - second to walking feet, that is. (Near Piazza San Giusto).

A good book in any language is worth a stop and read at lunchtime. (On Via Santa Croce).

It's a walking town - and a babel of languages can usually be heard but, since it is still mid-winter, the tourist hordes are at a minimum. The Lucchese get to stroll and enjoy their wondrous city - and they do so with panache. (Near Piazza Napoleone).

It is still winter but, on the sunny side of a piazza, there will always be a place to stop and sit, eat, and/or drink the impossibly tiny cups of coffee so popular here. (Near Piazza San Michelle).
Oh Lucca! - you have captivated me once again!
