At the Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

It was lonely at the beach at low tide today - just me and my gull-friends.

Survival becomes more daunting with the approach of winter. It is a handy feature to be able to rotate one's head 180 degrees - either a food source or a threat could be behind. I wonder if gulls exercise to keep the ability to look behind? I can barely turn my head 90 degrees.

And on top of the bluff - except for a few stubborn (or marcescent) oak trees, almost all the leaves have fallen to the ground.
