The Wall, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy

Lucca's newest outer wall dates from the 1500's. A small portion is shown above. Earlier wall construction dates back over two thousand years. Prudence being the better part of valor, the walls were never used in a defense/attack situation.

Bicycling on the wall's 4km/2.5mi circumferential path. (For this image I excluded all color except green).

It is also a popular place for walking the dog.

Common transportation for local residents within the town (but not on the wall path). I'd love to live in a place where I could regularly use a motor scooter, especially a bright red one - hmmmm?

Snow-capped mountains to the north of Lucca in the southern Apuan Alps.
