Climbing the Clock Tower, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy

We had a good downpour of rain last night that left some great reflective puddles in town this morning.

A typical narrow street in Lucca.

And old woman and bicycle - and speaking of bicycles........

.........it helps to lock the front tire AND the frame to prevent theft.

But this post was about climbing the Clock Tower, the tallest tower in Lucca with a clock that has been in use since 1390. It was a tough narrow climb up a bit more than 200 rickety wooden steps but, a great reward at the top. This view is to the east, the Guinigi tower is visible at center. At one time Lucca had up to 130 towers in the town.

The view north. Still a few snow-capped peaks on the horizon.

The view south. Pisa is on the other side of the mountain. It is great to be back in Lucca, to walk it's streets and wall, to eat it's food, to see and meet it's people - it is truly a special place.
