Kayak View, Bartlett Pond, White Horse Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Bartlett Pond is a 30-acre freshwater pond just a stone's throw from White Horse Beach and Cape Cod Bay.

In my experience, it is unusual to find a sizable freshwater pond so close to the ocean.

Mostly seasonal cottages are scattered along the shoreline.  Some, close to the edge......

....some tucked into the cool shady trees.....

.... some peeking out through the verdant growth.....

....some barely able to see the water after the bulrushes grow tall.....

.... some have seasonal docks.....

....but everyone gets to enjoy the annual explosion of new life on the pond.

Gardens burst out in color.

The unpaved but freshly graded roads near the pond see traffic increase as the summer visitors return.

The pond is only a short walk to nearby White Horse Beach.  And yes, it is possible to take the kayak down the short brook that connects the pond to the ocean - but I don't.
