Stonework

I watched a PBS special recently (PBS is the Public Broadcasting System television station in the United States) .  It was about the Inca architects and engineers that designed and constructed Machu Picchu at 8000 MSL in the mountains of Peru in the 15th century.  No mortar - each granite block shaped by hand to fit precisely. Again, each granite block shaped by hand to fit precisely.  Imagine that.

For comparison, this stone wall was constructed on Cape Cod in Massachusetts in the early 21st century, obviously NOT by Inca engineers and architects.  Hmmmmm? Interesting illustration of "progress."
