Visual Definition: White, Bartlett Pond, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Is there anything more blazing pristine white than the white of a mature mute swan's feathers? How does a critter living 24/7 out in the wild stay this clean?  Why did the mute swan evolve to be so visible? What happened to camouflage for survival?  Granted, the young offspring of mute swans is gray/off-white but the adults are blazing pristine white.  Extraordinary.
