Out and About, Boston Common, Public Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Over Memorial Day weekend, the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund organization sponsors a flag garden on the Boston Common to recognize and pay tribute to each Massachusetts citizen who has died in wars. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument stands in the background above at left.

Beginning with the Revolutionary War, it adds up to more than 37,000 people.

That's a big number to imagine.

And all those flags cover a lot of territory. It's a powerful sight to see.

This march occurred at midday nearby the flags at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

Otherwise, in the park, life goes on as normal. Squirrels sit on the benches and eat a snack - just like the humans.

The carousel is open for the season and parents and kids line up for a ride.....

.....while a couple of very large family members await. They were tall enough to ride on their own but didn't.

Some of the Allium are still blooming but, its days are numbered.

Though welcome, the rains have finally stopped.
