Memorial Day, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

It was cloudy, cold, and breezy at the beach for this year's Memorial Day.

Nobody was out walking (except me).

A good time to reflect on the meaning of this symbol.

The alternating red and white stripes signify the original 13 colonies and the 50 stars represent the states in today's union.

We're certainly not a perfect nation but, with a foundation of Democracy, Rights, Liberty, Opportunity and Equality we certainly have good ideals to strive toward as established by the founders in the late 1700's.

It's pretty amazing and impressive that Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, and many others back then were able to come up with such a compelling and enduring form of government.

I'm not sure what this beach sculpture signifies. Perhaps a boneyard forest commemorating the original colonies?
