Red-shouldered Hawk, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA
Although this may look like a stuffed display in a museum diorama, it is a real hawk perched on a rotting tree looking for a bite to eat. This red-shouldered feathered friend has been hanging around the pond for at least the past two months, sighted almost daily. I usually don't get a good image as he spooks when he detects my movement. This time was the exception although the image was captured from inside the house looking out through double-paned glass. (He flew away seconds later).
It may be anthropomorphic of me but, with as much rainy and gloomy weather as we have had recently, perhaps he is just enjoying the moment sitting in the bright sunshine.
