In my part one blog post, at this link, the master carpenters from Kelleher Fine Builders, Inc., were putting together the wood structures at Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT) for the background set for "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Following that, the set pieces received a base coat and the black stage floor was painted gray in preparation for the set design artist, Denise Feeney, to come in and create the stones and provide the finish painting to bring life to the structures.
A few hours later working on the floor, Denise has almost finished painting in the black grout lines to create the illusion of stones.
I am just blown away by the effect she has achieved. Here's the view from the mezzanine. But wait - there's more ......
When I returned the next day, much progress was evident.
Not only are the set pieces nearing completion, but also.......
......Denise has further enhanced the stonework by applying a texture-like finish to give it more depth and realism. An amazing effect!
PBT's costume designer, Richard Danehy, above conferring with Denise as he helps out with the painting.
And here's the artisan herself, Denise, applying a texture effect to the stone wall visible between the houses. As both a performer and set designer, Denise brings more than two decades of experience working at southeastern Massachusetts performing arts venues.
Paint cans and ladders have been put away, just in time for rehearsal to resume on stage. (Note: the colors above are the result of stage lighting, the true colors of the set are seen in the previous images).
"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," opens on August 4th for eleven performances. Contact PBT at this link or by phone at 508-224-4888 for tickets and/or information.
