Barn Show, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The Barn Show Music Series continues its summer season of outdoor concerts at Holmes Farm in Manomet. Holmes Farm isn't quite on the scale of Yasgur's Farm (and there's no mud) but the spirit of good music outdoors still exists today. Co-presented by Hayley Sabella and Brewster Productions, the concert series features the best in up-and-coming original music, with everything from folk to country to rock, and much more in between.

The stage is at right in the red former vegetable stand.  The audience (estimated by me variously between 200-500 patrons), spreads out on blankets and beach chairs to enjoy local, live music.

It's is hard to believe that this rural, pastoral setting is only a mile from White Horse Beach and less than a mile to Manomet Beach.  The Holmes Farm property is a working farm and farmstand during its non-music life. The music series offered four concerts this summer season.  The final one is on September 4th.

These two Icelandic Sheep seemed pretty happy to be here, too.

This one even sports a friendly smile.

Though I do love to see sunflowers, they are bittersweet - it means the summer season is winding down and the days are getting noticeably shorter.

The bees sure do like the sunflowers, too.

This one is heading right for the bullseye. (Not Photoshopped).

With wings moving too fast to see, these bees look like oddly shaped blobs with antennae.

Oh yeah, this post is about music........the opening act, The Meadows Brothers, is not doing a Blues Brothers imitation - rather the sun, low on the horizon, was shining directly into their eyes.

The next band was Honeysuckle.

As daylight faded, the headliner act, Dietrich Strause, took the stage to close out the night.

The area in front of the stage was popular for dancing kids and dogs.

What could be better than playing live music before a mellow and happy crowd of New Englanders enjoying the combination of live music, outdoors under the stars, and 75 degree temperature.

It is such a treat that Hayley Sabella and Brewster Productions have the gumption and drive to make this happen. I hope it continues next summer!
