June 10th. It's getting mighty crowded in the nest as the birds grow quickly.
June 11th.
June 12th.
June 13th. Three of the four have fledged. The remaining one is either a slow learner/flyer or, is luxuriating in the now spacious accommodation.
I was awestruck by the rapid growth of these nestlings until the light bulb in my brain turned on. The peak of caterpillar presence is right about now. They are hanging from trees, crawling up walls, on my car, and the grass or walkways - everywhere. So the parent birds have had an incredibly convenient and plentiful source of food for their young. Yum.
