14,000 Steps: A Walk on a Winter Day, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

These are two of my favorite buildings at North Square in the North End.  Rounded rooms with copper cladding on the exterior. Paul Revere (a patriot during the American Revolution in the 1700's), lived on this square and his former house is a popular stop on the tourist circuit.

I was bundled up to be outside for many hours on this winter walk. The big three were necessary: hat, scarf, gloves to go along with three layers on the torso, and long underwear and flannel lined pants for my legs. (Have I mentioned lately that I am a cold-weather wimp?).

This busker was performing indoors in the dining area of the Quincy Market.

He is quite a talented young man.

This youngster was a little bit more timid on a nearby piano that is available for anyone to sit down and play.

The old pedestrian bridge across Fort Point Channel.

A chain along Fan Pier.

The Hood stand near the Children's Museum.

View across Fort Point Channel.

The late afternoon sun angle just barely illuminated the yellow hull of this rowboat under a bridge across Fort Point Channel.

The gentle late afternoon light was magical.

As afternoon gave way to evening, it was time to walk back to the starting point.

For this visit I parked near Quincy Market and walked through part of the North End, along the Greenway, through South Station, across Fort Point Channel to Fan Pier and then back - with a few other minor diversions along the way. All tallied, about 14,000 steps - good exercise on a winter's day in the city of Boston.
