Guess Which Stairway?, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Of the twenty or so stairways along this stretch of beach only two are still in place. Most stairway owners disassemble and/or raise the lowest sections of stairs so the winter storms and tides don't destroy them. The one pictured above is all wood.

Well made but, gravity does most of the work holding it in place - until disrupted by mighty waves and tides.

A few hundred yards away, this stairway uses a heavy duty welded metal (aluminum?) lower section of stairs.

It's one big piece of welded metal attached with monster bolts to the wood platform but otherwise just resting on the earth.

I am curious to see which one, or neither, or both, survive the winter storms and tides. Does placement within each scallop of bay make a difference? does the wood or metal make a difference? is it just luck of the draw? I'll find out come spring.
