Pond Shadows, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

An advantage of living at a northern latitude is that during the winter, the sun low on the horizon makes great long shadows even at midday.

This is the same pond where neighborhood kids were skating a few weeks ago.  Now, the surface of the ice is covered with slush and varying amounts of snow - no more skating for a long time.

Whether ice or not, the world always looks good after a fresh snowfall. (Panorama - click on image to view in full width.)
