Cathedral - Piazza dei Miracoli, Pisa, Tuscany, Italy

The Cathedral (Duomo) is situated between the Tower and the Baptistery on the Field of Miracles (Piazza dei Miracoli). Construction started in 1064.  Lots of marble used on this soaring structure. Note the size of the front doors relative to the tiny people.

Detail of the facade above the front door.

Detail of the arch above the front door.

A detail of one of the many bronze panels inset in the massive front doors.

I am not a formally religious man but I am still impressed and amazed at what the faithful accomplished with simple tools and devoted labor a thousand years ago.

A more detailed view of the ceiling and arches.

Craftsmanship is apparent in wood, too, although more recent in construction. This view is looking through the many rows of carved pews from the back of the chapel toward the front.  Like the Leaning Tower that shares the same site, the Cathedral is a spectacular building and a beautiful place to visit.
