Priscilla Beach Theatre, Priscilla Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

I'm always on the lookout for a dramatic sky framing the Priscilla Beach Theatre to give me a good image.

Here it is with a "tilt-shift" effect.

And here with a "zoom-burst" effect. All three suffer the same problem - I didn't focus well enough so the type with the theatre name is too fuzzy.

I think I'll stick with this version I captured three years ago. The search continues.......

Priscilla Beach Theatre's Barn Stage, a 240-seat venue, is in its 81st season and is cited as the oldest summer stock barn theatre still operating in America. The original barn was built in 1875 and much of that structure remains in place today.

Summer's Peak, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

One of the advantages of living in New England is the reminder that life is not static. The seasons seem to be constantly changing. As Mark Twain was reported to say, "If you don't like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.”

This man is reading a book. A book - you know - one of those things that have paper pages with words printed on them. There are no batteries required.

Curiously, his book is entitled "Astral Weeks," a tome about the great musician Van Morrison who has some history with the Boston area. (The photographic effect is called a "zoom-burst.")

Otherwise, kids play in the sand and tide......

.....flowers bloom......

.. heralding the next season......

...when the color will move into the trees for one last glorious blast before the stillness of winter (still except for the biting cold wind and roaring waves). Enjoy.

Reflections, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Nothing like a still pond to create a near-perfect reflection. At this point in summer the new growth has overtaken nearly everything.  Soon, the deep greens will give way to the reds, oranges, and yellows of fall.

The Spire and an Elephant, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Looking down Brewster Street from the front lawn of the Town Hall, one can see Plymouth Harbor and Cape Cod Bay in the distance. The structure on the left is the Spire Center for the Performing Arts. Originally built in 1886, it had served as a religious facility in its previous life. At center, that is not the Beatles crossing Abbey Road.

During July this summer, Plymouth's own Americana Theatre Company has produced the Broadway classic "Man of La Mancha" on the Spire stage. The original production began in 1965, ran more than 2300 performances, and garnered five Tony Awards and is considered one of the most enduring works of musical theatre. The Spire Center facility has a wonderful vibe from its long and rich history coupled with state of the art sound and lighting systems and good people to operate it all.

According to their website, "The Greater Plymouth Performing Arts Center, Inc. (GPPAC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2010 and dedicated to performing arts and educational programs which support the vibrant arts community in the greater South Shore region. The organization founded The Spire, a venue to serve as a mecca for the arts and showcasing music, theatre and dance performances as well as education that supports the performing arts. GPPAC strives to present a wide variety of entertainment appealing to all generations within our region as well as the thriving New England tourist community. As a cultural asset The Spire will provide an economic boost to historic Plymouth's active downtown area as the cornerstone for the arts as well as serving as a point of pride for its residents."

And just down the street, this hand carved elephant is taking shape as pedestrians walk by. Plymouth is an art, music, theatre, and performance kind of town from my perspective. Add to that the many good eateries, sights and history, and it is a special place to call home.

Support the performing arts in Plymouth or wherever you live in the world. There is always something interesting going on in Plymouth - "America's Hometown."

New England Summer, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Our summer beach weather doesn't last very long but, it sure is glorious while it is here.

Inland, the gardens are exploding with color and scent.

On a really fortunate day, the low tide, warm sun, and clear sky all coincide.

Bee balm blooms but bees be by beginning by brunch.

Buzzing bees belong being busy by bringing batches of bee beauty.

It's hard to beat a New England summer. Even with bad alliteration.
