A Long Weekend in Vermont: the House - Part 1 - Warren, Vermont, USA

I am in the ski country area of central Vermont for a long weekend with a group of friends and photographers. This is the first in a series of blog posts that will cover the sights we saw and things we did.

It is clearly not ski season but, it is a perfect time to wander some of the back roads, hills, farms, barns, and bridges of this beautiful New England state. Our group is staying in this rented house near the town of Warren and near the Sugarbush ski area. Amy found the property on the HomeAway.com website (http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p3944213). It was a great place for our group of eight people - complete with both indoor and outdoor fireplaces and all the other comforts of home - s'mores anyone?

When I think of Vermont, I think of trees, trees, and more trees.

There's a reason that it's nickname is the "Green Mountain State," since about 75% of the land is covered in forests. Vermont and Wyoming are the two least populated states in the United States. Another of Vermont's claims to fame is as the leading producer of maple syrup in the United States.

Classical Guitar, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

I've been thinking about Spain and flamenco dancers with flowers in their teeth.

But I'll settle for flowers arranged artfully on a guitar since I don't have a flamenco dancer nearby.

A simple flower can inject much beauty into a scene - and soon enough the beauty of summer flowers will give way to fall and winter.

Too bad I was rudely interrupted by this Power Ranger who dropped into the scene with threatening gestures and made me stop.  Go figure.

"Odd Couple," Priscilla Beach Theatre, Priscilla Beach, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT) is now in rehearsal to bring the third major adult cast production this summer to its newly restored Barn Stage with the TONY Award winning show, "Odd Couple."

This classic comedy opens as a group of the guys assembles for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal but as the action unfolds Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results.

The run was scheduled for three performances beginning on September 18th but due to very high demand, they have already added two additional shows. You can visit PBT's website at http://www.pbtheatre.org/ or call 508-224-4888 for tickets and more information. As has been the case all summer at each and every previous production, tickets will sell out quickly for this production, too.

Produced by Bob and Sandy Malone, directed by Theresa Chiasson.

Here's a look at the cast.

Door Knob Selfies, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

When one is stuck inside on a stormy day, a camera makes a good play toy.

Yep, in retirement, creativity knows no bounds.........perhaps though, that's not always such a good thing........door knob selfies?

Wandering Around - Part 4 - Boston, Massachusetts, USA

For this final part of my tourist walk in Boston, from the Commonwealth Avenue pedestrian mall, I re-entered the Public Garden, and continued across the lagoon bridge........

......where I saw this swan chasing a namesake swan boat. Go figure.

These pedal powered swan boats are popular for tourists.

A summer picnic beside the lagoon.  And speaking of picnics, all this walking makes me hungry so ........

..... I walked just outside the Public Garden, to the Boloco restaurant which offers an inexpensive lunch on a shady outdoor patio at the corner of Boylston Street and Charles Street  - vegan options available!

Immediately adjacent to the lunch patio, the Edgar Allan Poe foundation erected this sculpture of their namesake and his trusty raven.

So now I'm hot and tired of walking but, at least my belly is full - a last sculpture on the edge of the Boston Common and then underground to the Red Line subway station at Park Street for my quiet trip back to Braintree and then home sweet home. Ah, Boston.......a world class city always.
