Spring, Bartlett Pond, White Horse Beach, Manomet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

The grass turning greener is always an opening sign of the arrival of spring at a cottage on Bartlett Pond. Soon, the magnolia will will start to bud out.

So much life on, in, and around the pond. Swans honking, and flapping, and running across the water surface chasing a goose who got too close to her cygnets. I enjoy just sitting and watching and listening.  It's a nice way to spend a few minutes, no electronics involved, just like I was a kid in the 1950's. A cacophony of bird sounds (most of which I can't identify), the loudest and most common the red-winged blackbird.

The docks only moved a short distance this year. Each fall, I tie a rope to the corner post and stake it on land.  That way when the ice and/or high water tries to move it away, it doesn't go too far.

Looks like Tinman has reached the end of his useful life guarding the garden.  I am torn - should I replace his rusted cans and give him new life, or, move on to a new future?

After Mother Nature and Amy have had their way, this is what it looked like in mid-July last year.

  1. Hi there…’happy day.’ I love it when Amy assists Mother Nature and vice versa. Love it too when you post pictures of nature in and around ‘Man O Met.’ Hope to see the little red umbrella on a Spring/Summer “walk about” settling every now and again to sit/rest comfortably in the greenery, as it did in the snow this past winter.

Please don’t give up on the Tinman just yet. Either give it an implant or two, (replacing the most worn and torn cans with new and shiny ones) or ideal would be to dress Tinman up for one last big show, (spray) paint it’s body the color of the blue boat and the ‘funnel top’ the color of the yellow boat. If the yellow boat is just visiting…then paint the ‘funnel top’ orange. I visualize it fitting in well with the surrounding foliage. :)
